Using databases

The CSU library subscribes to databases from several different vendors. (Best to think of a database as an organized, easily accessed collection of related information.)

These databases can contain different types of information (e.g. dictionaries, encylopedias, images), but most index magazine and journal articles. Many of these article databases contain the actual article in full text; some only contain a citation helping you find the article in another database or in print.

Though these databases may look different or store different types of data, they all work according to the same basic principles. Understanding how to browse, search, and read articles in one database should help you move easily to others, especially other databases provided by the same vendor.
