If you cannot get a book or article from CSU or SWITCH, we may be able to obtain the item from other libraries through ILLiad Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

ILL services are available only for current faculty, students, and staff.

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database, the electronic system you use to request an item through Interlibrary Loan.

What may be requested?

Only materials NOT found in TOPCAT may be requested. If the item is in TOPCAT but currently unavailable, you can request or recall it through TOPCAT.

About this service
How many requests can I make?
Five (5) requests per person per week.
Requests submitted above that number will be processed when workloads permit
How long does it take?
10 to 14 days, sometimes longer.
How much does it cost?
  • Graduate students – 20 free requests per semester
  • Undergraduate students – 5 free requests per semester.
  • Additional requests - $3 each.
In submitting a request, you are agreeing to these charges -- even if the item is not useful or if you fail to pick it up.

NOTE: If the lender charges more than $10 to fill a request, you will be asked to pay the additional cost over $10; you will be notified of additional charges prior to ordering.

 

 
Getting Started

First Time User Registration for Interlibrary Loan

To request an item through Interlibrary Loan, you must first identify yourself to the library's ILLiad system. To do this you fill out a registration form using your Web browser.

Registration has three purposes:

  1. Entering your personal information into the ILLiad system means you will not have to supply the information again when making future requests.
  2. Having your e-mail and regular mail addresses on file with Interlibrary Loan enables us to notify you promptly and deliver materials accurately when your request arrives in the library.
  3. By specifying a Username and Password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review the list of items you have requested in the past.

About your Username and Password

During registration, you will be asked to choose a Username and Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future.

Username
Choose anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code.
Password
Choose anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems.
ILLiad will encrypt your password, so it will remain secure. Only you will know your password.

Using ILLiad

How do I request an item?

  1. Login to ILLiad
  2. Under New Request, choose one of the material types (Article, Book, Book Chapter)
  3. Fill out the form
  4. Click the Submit Request button

How do I know when my material has arrived?

You will be notified via the email address that you specify when you create your ILLiad account that your material has arrived.

How do I get my material?

Books
Books can either be held at the library for pickup at the circulation desk, or can be shipped directly to you. You are responsible for returning books to the CSU library, including any shipping costs.
Photocopied journal articles / book chapters
Electronic versions of journal articles and book chapters are accessed via your ILLiad account and will be found under the Electronically Received Articles link.

How long can I keep the Interlibrary Loan?

  • Photocopied journal articles / book chapters - yours to keep.
  • Books – 2 – 3 weeks. Materials may be recalled at any time.

The due date will be clearly noted on the cover of the book.

Can I renew items?

Renewals are generally not allowed.

How do I return books?

You may return books in one of two ways:

  • Drop in a Cardinal Stritch University Library bookdrop
  • Return via U.S. Mail. Directions are attached to the item.

What if I forgot my password?

  1. Click the Forgot Password? link.
  2. Enter the username you created for ILLiad.
    NOTE: This username is not tied to your Stritch account and may be whatever you wish
  3. Click the Reset Password button
  4. An e-mail will be sent to the address you specified when you registered for ILLiad.
  5. Click on the link within the e-mail
  6. You'll be directed to a Reset Password form.
  7. Complete the form and click the Reset Password button
